When We Must Fight: Far-Right Women and Self-Defense


Tensions are growing higher by the day, and as antifa praises the inauguration day attacks on Richard Spencer, the chance of being faced with physical violence is increasing for us all. The women of the movement face a special threat from those who oppose us because we are often seen as easier targets. This can be seen quite clearly in the recent beating of a woman for simply wearing a bracelet that depicted the Spanish flag, and these events will only increase in number as the women of the movement become more numerous and the animosity towards us grows. We must be prepared for situations like this when they arise by being alert, fit, and armed.

One of the most important parts of escaping a physical confrontation intact is to avoid it entirely. It is important to be vigilant, especially in areas where there is low light and little traffic. That being said, an attack can come from anywhere and one cannot depend on bystanders to intervene when it comes down to the wire, especially if you are known to be a member of a far-right movement. Always have one eye watching for any followers, suspicious glances, and those moving too close to you. It is far better to be safe than sorry here, and if you feel like something is wrong: flee. There is no shame in running to fight another day if the opportunity arises.

That being said, it is often impossible to avoid confrontation with those who are determined to start one. The first piece of winning any fight you are in (or at least, getting out on your own two feet) is being in good physical shape. Aside from the obvious health benefits, being about to outrun, outlast, or at least do some damage to your attacker could save your life. Run, lift weights, and take self-defense classes: learn how to use the body given to you by your ancestors to honor them and protect the future for your descendants. An extension of this is to ensure that you are dressed in a way that makes you capable of using your athletic abilities when the need arises. This does not mean that you must always be wearing workout clothes, but I would discourage heels, as well as very tight pants, skirts, or dresses that severely restrict your mobility.

However, the most important thing that a woman can do to defend herself is to be armed. If you can carry a concealed firearm, do it. Keep it on you whenever you can, and be well- trained in its use. Of course, this is the most risky self-defense option, but it is also the most effective: the best antifa is a dead antifa after all, so don’t think twice about putting a bullet in one if you can do it legally. Yet we must also remember that many of us cannot have a gun, and there are many places where guns are not allowed where one might be able to take other, more discreet weapons. I highly recommend keeping a good knife and pepper spray on you at all times, and being very comfortable using them both. Stab wounds do wonders to deter attackers, as do chemicals in the eyes and mucous membranes. And what if you’re in Europe where these weapons are banned? Well that’s tough shit, I suppose, and I would advise you to put even greater emphasis on the first two points on this essay that I outlined above.

The threats against women in the movement are both prevalent and unique. Women are often seen as the easier target for a cowardly group such as antifa, and it is often true that we are less capable in the realm of self-defense than males. On top of regular assault, we are also vulnerable to attacks of a sexual nature, and others intended to inflict fear and humiliation. We must not allow these attacks to continue, instead we must strike fear into the hearts of those who would dare to use violence to silence us, be it though punches thrown or bullets fired. I do not advocate for unjust or illegal actions, but when it comes down to it, our lives are more important than theirs, and we must remind them that they are endangering those lives when they seek to take ours.
